Oil-Spills
FOR 80 DAYS NOW THE GULF HAS BEEN BLEEDING!
Ever since the BP oil platform exploded on April 20th oil is gushing into the ocean with no definite end in sight.
According to recent estimates 2.5 million gallons (9.5 million liters) daily, amounting to roughly 200 million gallons (757 million liters) by now, are spreading soundlessly into the ocean, compounded by hundreds of thousands of gallons of dispersing agents. From there these fluids are poisoning the cradle of fertility below and devastating some of the most precious marshlands in the coastal region. This accident surely is not just an industrial one but inflicts a deep wound on planet Earth itself.
This project is inspired by the numb feeling of merely being a distant bystander, by the hammering urge to do something. Looking at photos and realizing the aesthetic of that imagery of oil in water bore the idea to print it onto a silk/cotton fabric. Profits will be donated to the US National Wildlife Federation.

The news that the world population will reach seven billion in 2011 inspired us to create our new limited edition „World Population”.

If everyone stood in triangles together, roughly 2/3 of the world’s population would fit into the boundaries of Berlin.

The challenges we face and the necessity to come together are reflected in the fabric of this work. The material consists of intricately woven triangles:

~ 8/cm2 ~ 1.15 million /piece ~ 1/3 of Berlin’s population

The shape of a triangle historically symbolizes coming together, which we all need in order to perform this delicate balancing act of keeping the planet, shedding light and channeling energy toward greater humanity.
